About
Darkskyas is a field atlas of the world's dark skies, built entirely on open data.
For each place we estimate the usual brightness of its sky from NASA's night-lights map, calculate the dark hours, the Milky Way, the Moon, meteor showers, eclipses and auroras, read the clouds month by month from NASA and the horizon from the Copernicus relief model, and list what OpenStreetMap shows around: observatories, campsites, places to stay.
Nothing here is a forecast or a safety assessment. Dark places are remote: drive slowly, carry warm clothes and a red torch, and tell someone where you are going.
